A Texas police officer has resigned, days after cell phone video of him violently restraining a young girl and drawing his weapon on unarmed teens at a pool party went viral.

CBS Dallas reported that Corporal Eric Casebolt submitted his resignation through his attorney. McKinney Police Chief Greg Conley was expected to make a statement outside police headquarters Tuesday evening.

The video -- which showed Casebolt putting one black teen in handcuffs, pointing his gun at others and throwing a young black girl to the ground -- sparked worldwide outrage after it was released Sunday.

Saying he feared for his safety, Casebolt gave a statement to investigators and left town after being placed on administrative leave.

On Monday, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the pool in the affluent, predominantly white Dallas suburb where the incident took place Friday, calling for Casebolt to be fired.

State records reviewed by CBS Dallas show the 41-year-old Casebolt, who has been with the department for 10 years, had 2,200 hours of law enforcement classes, including extensive training in both cultural diversity and use of force.
