A judge sentenced a man to life in prison for raping a 5-year-old Tulsa girl last year.

Kyle Hancock had initially pleaded not guilty in the case, but changed his plea after his preliminary hearing.

The judge sentenced Kyle Hancock to life without parole for the attack.

According to court documents, a woman awoke to sounds of her daughter being raped after midnight on Saturday, May 17, 2014. She fought off the attacker who jumped out a window and ran away.

The documents say Hancock's friends and family notified police after seeing news reports about the rape later that day. Prosecutors say Hancock pleaded not guilty and claimed to be innocent until guards found a stack of letters he'd written in his cell. They say that's when he changed his plea to guilty.

The content of the letters gradually changes, with Hancock initially discussing his innocence before finally admitting to the crime and providing details about how he committed it.

Hancock was a registered sex offender out of Creek County in a case that also involved a child. He also has a conviction for first-degree burglary there.
