Dry weather has revealed what many people feared; flood water washed away almost every trace of one of Oklahoma's oldest bridges.

Heavy rain from Tropical Depression Bill last week sent rivers and streams out of their banks in many parts of Oklahoma, but the worst of it was in the south-central part of the state.

In Johnston County, the heavy rain swelled the Washita River and the raging water proved too much for the old Norton Road Bridge.

The swollen river washed it away at about 9:45 p.m. on June 18, 2015. No one was hurt.

Built in 1909, the old bridge had been closed to traffic since 2008 when it was damaged by an overweight vehicle.

The bridge was a mixed truss design and was located just north of Mannville and a few miles west of Tishomingo in Johnston County. It was featured in a key scene in the 1973 movie "Dillinger."

Pictures taken on Thursday, June 25, 2015 by Johnston County Emergency Management Director Jason Bryant show hardly any of the bridge is left.

Some of the wooden deck is still attached to each bank, as are parts of the smaller trusses, but the large central span is nowhere to be found.
