For seven years, NFL player Felix Jones has brought his skills and friends to host a free football camp at Booker T. Washington High School.

The high school players get hands-on experience from NFL players who call Tulsa home, and it's off the field where these high school players are learning to stay healthy.

Before the players hit the field, hometown pros Felix Jones, Robert Meachem and Chris Harris kicked off camp with trainers teaching kids basic exercise fundamentals.

Youth and high school players spent the entire day going through plenty of football drills.

“I like to come to camp,” Wagoner running back Scottie Patton said. “It makes me get better. I always learn something new every year."

Patton has been to the camp since it started in 2008.

The Wagoner High School running back says the camp is teaching more than just football fundamentals.

“We've been learning about keeping your body healthy, keeping your grades up," Patton said.

His teammate also is learning what it means to stay healthy for the upcoming football season.

Wagoner's KJ Lee said he's learned “that stretching is one of the more important things to do before and after you get done."

Super Bowl wide receiver Meachem learned the skills from his youth football coach Darryl Bright.

"It is essential to understand that you are playing football right? But there's more to life than football, and you have to be prepared for the ups and downs of the game and how you have to be mentally and physically ready for that game,” Bright, who coaches the North Mabee Mustangs said. “On any level the life skills are very important."

Meachem said the most important thing to do when you are learning is to have a good time doing it.

“The most important thing that they taught me when I was growing up was have fun... That's what I want to teach these kids today because when you get on this level, it's a business. It's still fun, don't get me wrong, but it is a business," he said.
