Elderly Woman Suffering Medical Episode Backs Into Tulsa Church

Tulsa firefighters and police were called to the Sheridan Christian Center shortly after 9 a.m. when someone backed into the brick church.

A driver having a heart attack crashed into a church at 2nd and Sheridan Sunday morning.Tulsa firefighters and police were called to the Sheridan Christian Center shortly after 9 a.m. when an elderly woman backed into the brick church.

Authorities say the 85-year-old woman had dropped a friend off at the church and was backing out of her parking spot when she had a medical episode.

Police say she pushed the accelerator to the floor, and the car sped up before crashing into the corner of the church.

She was unconscious when emergency crews arrived and they took her to the hospital where she died. Police say she had a heart attack.

Firefighters broke out a window to help her from the large sedan. The back end of the car and the church wall had significant damages.

"Fortunately, at the time of the incident, there was no other vehicular or pedestrian traffic in the parking lot," said Sergeant J.J. Peters.
