A 5-year-old boy is missing after falling into the Cimarron River Saturday afternoon. Authorities are searching for the child and have set up a command post south of Dover at the Highway 81 bridge, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The Kingfisher County Sheriff's Office got the call around 5 p.m. that the boy went into the water and didn't resurface. KCSO called in OHP for assistance with their boats, divers and sonar equipment.

Crews searched til dusk and picked it back up at daybreak.

Sheriff Dennis Banther said they are concentrating the search under the bridge but are setting up barriers downstream to act as catch points in the recovery efforts.

Based on his experience with river recoveries, he doesn't expect the child's body to be found until tonight or tomorrow.

Troopers are assisting Kingfisher County Sheriff's Office and the Dover Fire Department.
