Dodgers Fall Again To Omaha

Omaha took down the Dodgers again on Sunday, scoring five times in the fifth to roll to an 8-2 win over OKC.

The first sweep at Memphis in Oklahoma City franchise history hasn't been enough for the Dodgers to take care of business against Omaha. 

After dropping Saturday night's game to the Storm Chasers, the Dodgers gave up a five-run fifth inning as Omaha rolled to an 8-2 win Sundayat Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Storm Chasers led 2-1 before scoring five times in the fifth inning to break open the game as they went on to take a 2-0 lead in the series against the Dodgers.

Omaha (45-39) outhit the Dodgers, 16-6, racking up seven extra-base hits in front of a crowd of 6,768.

Balbino Fuenmayor put the Storm Chasers in front in the first inning with a RBI double to left field for a 1-0 lead.

Omaha went ahead, 2-0, in the second inning when Brett Eibner tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jose Martinez.

The Dodgers (53-29) got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Darnell Sweeney singled to lead off the bottom of the frame for Oklahoma City and Corey Seager later brought him home on a RBI groundout toward first to cut Omaha’s lead to 2-1.

The Storm Chasers scored five times in the fifth inning to open up a 7-1 lead.

Whit Merrifield led off with a double, then scored on a RBI single by Fuenmayor. A second run scored in the inning when Francisco Pena grounded into a force out. Jose Martinez drove in two runs with a double and Moises Sierra brought the fifth run of the inning home for Omaha with a RBI single.

In the sixth inning, Seager belted a solo homer into the upper deck in right field to cut Omaha’s lead to 7-2. The homer was Seager’s eighth with the Dodgers, as he picked up his sixth multi-RBI game with Oklahoma City.

Omaha answered in the seventh inning when Pena led off with a solo home run to left field to extend to an 8-2 lead.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford played his first game with Oklahoma City as he continued his MLB rehab assignment and went 3-for-4 with a double.

Pitcher Rudy Owens (0-2) made his second start with Oklahoma City, allowing seven runs (three earned) and 12 hits over 4.2 innings. He issued one walk and had three strikeouts in the loss.

Kris Medlen (1-0) continued his MLB rehab with the Storm Chasers and earned the win, holding the Dodgers to two runs and five hits over 6.0 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

The back-to-back home losses are the first for Oklahoma City since a five-game losing skid in Bricktown June 1-5.

The Dodgers continue their four-game series against the Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m. Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
