Fire officials said lightning may have sparked a large house fire early Tuesday morning in the Oklahoma City metro.

Crews worked to put out a large fire at a home near Northwest Expressway and Northwood Drive. Despite their efforts, the home appears to be a total loss.

When firefighters arrived, the Battalion Chief said the roof of the 3,000 to 4,000 square foot house was on fire. About 80 percent of the home was totally-involved and the fire quickly spread to the attic.

The flames were so intense that search crews had to pull back from completing a sweep of the home. But it appears nobody was home at the time of the fire.

No firefighters were injured. Authorities are still looking into the cause, but lightning could've played a role.

Oklahoma City firefighters also got help from the Piedmont Fire Department on this one. But because there are no fire hydrants in the neighborhood, they had to bring in water from about three quarters of a mile away. The Battalion Chief said it played a role in his team's ability to get ahead of the fire.
