Two Bristow residents are dead after Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say their car failed to yield to oncoming traffic when making a left-hand turn.  Leon Pinson and Ada Pinson both died after the crash that took place around 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 10 on U.S. Highway 75 in Okmulgee County.

Troopers say Leon Pinson was driving on the highway in a 2005 Lincoln Town car when he turned left at Preston. He pulled into the path of a GMC pickup driven by Shannon Simpson of Okmulgee, the investigating trooper said in his report.

The Pinsons, 74 and 68, died of multiple injuries after being freed from the car by Okmulgee firefighters. They were husband and wife, OHP confirmed.

Leon Pinson was a former Bristow mayor and city councilor.

Simpson, 42, was treated and released from Okmulgee Hospital for trunk injuries, the collision report states.

Both drivers were in apparently normal condition at the time of the wreck. Simpson was the only one wearing a seatbelt, according to OHP.
