TULSA, Oklahoma -

A few left-over showers and storms may brush the far northern OK or southern Kansas area for the next few hours or so but most locations will remain dry.   A decaying area of showers to our west doesn’t appear to have enough momentum to hold together, but stranger things have happened.   This is the 5th morning in a row for some showers and storms to skirt part of the state. This chance is around or less than 10% for areas northwest of the metro.  Temperatures are expected to move back into the mid-90s later today along with THI (Temperature heat index values) near 105.   We don’t anticipate a need for a heat advisory today for most locations, but advisory level criteria may be met again for part of the weekend.   We’ll also make a run at a real deal 100 degree day Sunday.    A front will near the area early next week with a chance for a few showers or storms.   The mid-level ridge may build back across the area by late next week with some upper 90s and near 100 readings into next weekend.

This morning the ridge is centered south of the region but will still be the dominate feature for the southern plains today.   The northern periphery will allow another chance for some afternoon showers or storms across far northwestern OK and southern Kansas.

The rest of the weekend forecast is straight forward:   increasing southwest winds and increasing temperatures.    Local dews are expected to slowly increase despite the influence of the southwesterly component to the wind.   The mid-level ridge is expected to strengthen this weekend and daytime highs will move a few degrees to the up-side.

The ridge slides south to southwest early next week and a front moves southward Monday into Tuesday.  This boundary should stall somewhere across northern OK providing a chance for a few scattered storms.   The additional clouds may limit the highs into the lower 90s Tuesday but Mondays highs may still be on the warm side before the front draws near the area.   A mid-level disturbance will brush the central Kansas area Tuesday and Wednesday.   All of these features will combine for a few storms. Once the disturbance lifts away from the state Wednesday morning, the ridge is forecast to expand and gain strength once again.   This will bring the heat back to the state with near triple digit readings into next weekend.   I do anticipate some “tweaking” of the pops for early next week, but the chances will continue to be rather low at this point.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
