TULSA, Oklahoma -

The practice of yoga has been around for centuries, but there's a new twist to it happening in Tulsa.  It's called Doga.

Tulsa's Be Love Yoga studio holds Doga classes. Don't pretend you've never heard of it. It's dog yoga.

Margot Ballard works with the people, Amy Vaughan with the dogs.

"They do actually respond. It brings you guys closer, the bond closer," said Amy Vaughan, owner of Spirit Ranch dog training school.

Yoga really is an ancient Sanskrit term meaning joining or uniting. It was developed in India as a mental and physical discipline. Around here it's more a form of exercise.

Be Love Studio and Spirit Ranch Dog Training are joining forces to try to get doga going in Tulsa.

Joe Picorale and Jennah Turner brought their dogs in to try to give us an idea of what doga is and what it might look like. Amy says it really can be therapeutic.

"It helps dogs who've been abused, PTSD, trauma," she said.

Joe's dog Brown Girl and Jennah's Riggly are kind of new to this so there is a lot more coaxing, and encouraging and a few more dog treats than there might be after a few classes.

So when I got back to the station everyone said did they do the pose? Downward dog - are you kidding?

Jennah did, but Riggly's having none of it. Not even for a treat.

Here's what I noticed by the end of the session the dogs seemed quieter and more relaxed. I was more relaxed just watching.

There's a dog yoga event starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park, 6th and Peoria. Bring your mat, your dog and a leash.
