A Vietnam War veterans’ group is in town this weekend for a reunion.

They’re called the “Ghost Riders” helicopter unit. They were part of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War.

The “Ghost Riders” flew dangerous combat assaults and supply missions during that war.

They try to get together once a year.

Local organizer John Snyder said the group meets in Oklahoma City every other year, and they met in Dallas last year.

“It’s a way to just express, because the thing is, we don’t have to prove nothing to nobody, because we all went through it together,” he said Saturday afternoon while the group of about 60 “Ghost Riders” toured the 45th Infantry Museum.

“Ghost Rider” Don Harbin drove in from Nashville, Tennessee.

“This is a great thing for me. It helps a whole lot. I found out all of the guys I was worried about are still alive and kickin’,” he said.

The reunion lasts all weekend and will include a handful of events. The 60 or so participants this year will be staying at Oklahoma City’s Biltmore.

“Ghost Rider” Rick Reavill came all the way from Everson, Washington, for the event.

“The public image of Vietnam (War) veterans is a pretty unfair depiction of us, and meeting with these guys again you realize these are good people. We were there for a reason, we cared about our service, and we wanted to do a good job,” he said.
