Gabriel Adarme was originally from Hawaii before moving to Oklahoma. But Saturday night about 100 members of his Oklahoma family gathered at Arcadia Lake to remember him.

More than a week after his death, his memory was alive among all of the people he touched.

“He was one of those people that you wanted in your life,” said Kyle Walker, Adarme’s neighbor.

Photos swayed in the wind under the Scissortail Pavilion at the memorial service. They showed the family member, friend, coworker and caretaker that will never be forgotten.

Gabriel Adarme was only 26 years old.

“He liked to make everybody laugh and he was a happy guy,” said Mariah Kennemer, Adarme’s sister.

And police said he was an innocent victim of a violent crime. On July 10 at Sunset Ridge Apartments, Gabe Wainscott told police he showed up with a knife.

When Adarme tried to call for help, he was stabbed multiple times. Wainscott told police stabbing him was “an act of passion.” He later told investigators Adarme was not the person he intended to kill.

But those close to Adarme said Saturday they're not dwelling on the disturbing details of his death. Instead they're sharing his love of music, the outdoors and telling stories about his infectious smile and ability to become a best friend to so many.

“He was magnetic. The good thing about magnetic people are the impressions they leave and I know at least for me and everyone else here, he’s going to be sticking around awhile,” Walker said.

Several in attendance wrote notes at the memorial on photos and in the guest book. They will be given to Adarme’s family in Hawaii at another service where he will be buried.
