Alan Crone's Weather Blog: Cranking Up The Heat, Humidity

TULSA, Oklahoma -

The mid-level ridge of high pressure will begin to dominate the state and this will help bring the heat and humidity to center stage.   Our daytime highs will move into the mid and upper 90s for the next several days with temperature heat index values near 110 in some locations.   These conditions should persist for a few days before the ridge moves southwest by the middle to end of next week when another disturbance and surface front may enter the state.

Excessive Heat Warning

The pesky boundary that has been plaguing our area for the last few days is finally lifting northeast out of the region this morning.   The hi-res model output has continued to indicate a few storms along this zone for the next few hours.   And as of this hour, we don’t see any immediate signs of storm development in this area.  If they do occur, pockets of heavy rainfall along with gusty winds and small hail would be the main threats.   Even is this did occur, they should remain out of our immediate area of concern despite the suggestion from the model otherwise.

Temperatures will start this morning in the 70s and move into the lower 90s at noon and into the upper 90s by afternoon.   Humidity values combined with expected temperatures will result in heat index values around 107 to 112 across the area.   Heat advisories will be underway this afternoon and tonight and excessive heat warning criteria may be met in a few locations, not only today, but also this weekend.

The mid-level ridge is expected to slide westward by Thursday and Friday of next week.   This is unusual for early August, but seems normal for the current pattern we’ve been experiencing this summer.   This means the temperatures will also drop a few degrees later next week and we’ll eventually include some storm chances for Thursday.   The pattern would also support an active pattern returning to the state for the 1st week in August.   Again…highly unusual for a normal August, but right on cue for our current summer pattern.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
