Red Bird, Oklahoma -

The Wagoner County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a fatal dog mauling in Red Bird last Friday.

The funeral for the victim, Carolyn Lamp, is this week and one family friend wants to remember Lamp for the way she lived.

Every patch on all the quilts carries a memory for Vera Poplin, of Coweta.

Quilting takes a lot of time, and for the last seven years she made a lot of memories across the table from her friend, Lamp.

“I've known a lot of sewing people and a lot of quilters, and I've never known one like Carolyn,” Poplin said.

Lamp was killed last Friday in Red Bird. The sheriff's office reports she was mauled by at least three dogs and found in a ditch along Main Street.

Deputies didn't find the dogs’ owner but did catch the dogs; no decision has been made about what to do with them.

Poplin said her friend was there picking up cans to support her quilting hobby.

She made quilts for soldiers and newborns from poor families; for women's shelters and the hospitals. No one knows how many she made.

“She had this neat little Singer featherweight and she kept it humming all the time. And usually it was for somebody else,” Poplin recalled.

Lamp was a retired nurse and hospital volunteer. So with all the good she did, that's how her friends want to remember her.

"We want to remember her for all the good things she's done instead of how she died, because that's almost unbearable, when you think about the pain she probably went through," Poplin said.

The funeral for Lamp is Thursday morning in Broken Arrow.

The sheriff's office said the district attorney will make the decision about what happens with the dogs.
