The tiny community of Macomb in Pottawatomie County hosted a benefit for a pair of giant miracles.

They are supporting twin girls who were conjoined when they were born a month ago.

Kathy Dillon organized the fundraiser which she set up outside her house.

The venue boasted a stage, several tents, raffles, live bands, and all kinds of food.

“You can’t beat it,” she said Saturday afternoon.

Hartlyn and Everlee Perez were born July 6 at OU’s Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

They were attached to each other at the mid-section, which was actually a good thing, because their mother Khalie Perez said doctors told her the higher up the attachment is, the more risky it is to separate them.

“The chances we were given were very slim, and for them to be at home smiling with us and uh being able to spend time with them, it just reminds you of what kind of miracles they are,” she said.

Surgeons at the Children’s Hospital operated on the babies two days after they were born. The surgery lasted about four hours.

More surgeries are on the horizon, after the girls are able to put on some weight.

Their father David Perez said aborting the pregnancy was never an option.

“Never, that was never, we wouldn’t even consider it," he said. "To find out we were having one, we were so ecstatic, find out we were pregnant with two, we were over the moon, we couldn’t believe it was twins, that’s pretty special.”

Kathy Dillon said they hope to raise around $5,000 Saturday for the Perez family with all of the medical bills sure to come.
