Dodgers Come From Way Behind To Beat New Orleans

The Oklahoma City Dodgers used a five-run seventh inning to tie Monday’s game before catcher Ralph Henriquez hit a RBI double in the eighth inning for a 7-6 win against the New Orleans Zephyrs at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers were held without a hit until the sixth inning and trailed, 6-1, entering the bottom of the seventh inning before their offense came to life in front of a crowd of 3,893.

Monday’s win gave the PCL-leading Dodgers a fifth straight win as they improved to 67-42 overall and to 4-0 in the current series with the Zephyrs.

New Orleans jumped out in front on the scoreboard in the second inning when Marcell Ozuna led off with a triple and scored on a RBI groundout by Kila Ka’aihue for a 1-0 lead.

Brady Shoemaker doubled and Juan Diaz singled before Jhonatan Solano came up to bat with one out later in the inning. He hit a RBI double to center field, scoring Shoemaker for a 2-0 New Orleans lead. Diaz attempted to score on the play, but was tagged out at home by Henriquez.

A RBI single from Shoemaker extended the Zephyrs to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. Vinny Rottino’s RBI single in the fifth inning then gave New Orleans a 4-0 advantage.

The Dodgers scored their first run of the night in the bottom of the fifth inning without a hit.

In his Oklahoma City debut, Jose Tabata reached and advanced to second on a fielding error on Zephyrs second baseman Jordany Valdespin. He advanced to third on a groundout by Darwin Barney and scored on a RBI groundout by Scott Schebler to cut New Orleans’ lead to 4-1.

Juan Diaz hit a two-run homer to right field to extend the Zephyrs to a 6-1 lead in the sixth inning.

In the sixth inning, Oklahoma City pinch-hitter O’Koyea Dickson singled to right field for the first hit of the night for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers offense rallied in the seventh inning, tallying six hits – including five straight – and scoring five runs.

Kyle Jensen and Darnell Sweeney hit back-to-back RBI singles before Jose Peraza hit a RBI double to pull the Dodgers within one run. Corey Seager added a RBI single to tie the game, 6-6.

A RBI double to the wall in center field by Henriquez broke the tie in the eighth inning and put OKC in front, 7-6.

New Orleans starting pitcher Kendry Flores held the Dodgers scoreless and to one hit through six innings. He ended up allowing five runs (four earned) and five hits over 6.2 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Zephyrs reliever Greg Nappo (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs and four hits over 1.1 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Chris Hatcher joined OKC on rehab assignment Monday as he recovers from a left oblique strain. He pitched a scoreless and hitless eighth inning for the win. Adam Liberatore earned his second save of the season with OKC pitching a scoreless and hitless ninth.

The Dodgers wrap up their five-game series against New Orleans at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
