An Oklahoma City teacher was arrested after allegedly showing up drunk to school this week.

Police were called to Emerson Alternative School, located in the 700 block of N. Walker, just after 9 a.m. on Tuesday in reference to public intoxication.

When officers arrived they met with the school’s principal and assistant principal, who told them that 55-year-old Rebecca Daniels was first seen just sitting in her vehicle in front of the school. Daniels is a science teacher at the school.

When Daniels did not show up for class, the assistant principal went out to her car and asked her if she was going to come inside. When Daniels attempted to get out of the car she was unsteady on her feet, but managed to make it to the principal’s office.

Police met with Daniels in the principal’s office and noted that her breath and person smelled of alcohol and that she had red watery eyes. She also slurred her speech.

Officer tried to give Daniels a field sobriety test, but instead kept her seated because she was so wobbly on her feet they were afraid she might fall and hurt herself.

At one point during the incident Daniels tried to get up and leave, stating, “I’m leaving in my vehicle to go to rehab.” She then refused to sit down and attempted to walk past the officers to get to her car.

Daniels was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail where she was booked for Public Drunkeness.
