EXCLUSIVE: Ruth Graham, Daughter Of Billy, Ministers To 'Broken People'

Ruth Graham, daughter of well-known evangelist Billy Graham, made a visit to Tulsa Sunday to share her ministry at a newly opened church in downtown. She talked about her life, her ministry, and her father exclusively with News On 6.

"I realized God had given me a message, a unique voice within my family, a unique message to me to share with others, and I'm delighted to be able to do that."

Graham comes to town at the invitation of Pastor Blaine Bartel, leader of the newly founded church Resurrection Tulsa. The church has been running a little more than three months and wanted a guest speaker with a message that touches on their ministry.

The church holds services off 8th and Kenosha in the Broadway Urban Event Center, a location with a purpose. Bartel wants to reach those who are homeless and give them a place to worship - without judgment.

It's a message Graham reinforces in her ministry.

"Well, the basis of my ministry is to let broken people, whether broken by life, broken by themselves and their own choices, or broken by someone else, know that "brokenness" is valuable in God's kingdom. He needs brokenness, and nothing is beyond his redemption," she said.

She says she had always been involved in the church and ministry growing up but that her calling to travel and speak to people came after a difficult point in her life.

"I only ever wanted to be a wife and a mother, but God had other plans," said Ruth Graham, daughter of Billy Graham.

She now travels from her home in Virginia speaking at conferences and engagements across the country. She also spoke about her aging father, who has disappeared from the national stage due to a series of health issues and age.

"My father is in good health," she said. "He's going to be 97 this year, and his lungs and his heart and his kidneys are in good shape, but he does rest a good bit of the time. He doesn't communicate much, but he's just as sweet as he can be."
