There's been a lot of talk about Tulsa's fast tempo offense and how it will keep defenses on their heels.

At Media Day Tuesday, another benefit for the team was discovered. "At practice they go incredibly fast. I feel like this is just helping us, preparing us for the season to where any other team we face will be like 'man, this is slow; hurry up and run some plays," said Golden Hurricane safety Michael Mudoh.

The fast tempo can also help TU avoid dwelling on mistakes. At times last season, a bad play or a missed assignment seemed to snowball. “As a football team, something bad happened, and all of a sudden it went from just one thing to okay now we've fallen off the table,” explained Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery. “We've been addressing that as a football team.”

Quarterback Dane Evans says the fast pace helps the team overall. Wide receiver Keeven Lucas explained why. “In two plays, it's coming right back to me and I have another opportunity. It's not really an offense where you can dwell on the past. You've got to keep moving forward," he said.

Tulsa has ten starters back on offense, and the players feel they have a system that fits their abilities. “The excitement level is really raised, that's the biggest thing. This team is excited. We're excited for a change. Everyone is coming together, especially since we're together all the time with camp and stuff like that. We're definitely moving in the right direction,” Lucas elaborated.

Time will tell if the right direction in August leads to the right record during the season.
