A Stillwater woman is fighting long odds to save the life of her unborn child after a devastating diagnosis.

Doctors told her, she'd be better off ending the pregnancy.

“They got really quiet and awkward,” said Ashlyn Newcomb about the moment doctors gave her a devastating diagnosis.

She was told her son had Potters Syndrome, an extremely rare condition where a baby never develops kidneys in the womb.

Newcomb has been told her unborn son will likely die before birth.

No kidneys mean the baby isn't producing amniotic fluid needed to grow.

But Ashlyn did find an experimental treatment at a hospital in Austin, Texas.

Every ten days, she drives seven plus hours to receive saline injections. The treatment gives her baby more room in the womb to develop.

“I felt I needed to do it,” said Newcomb about why she decided to try what she calls an unproven treatment.

The mom-to-be, also reached out to a U.S. Representative out of the state of Washington whose baby daughter has Potter Syndrome and is now two-years-old.

Rep. Jamie Herrera Buetler not only called back, but called Ashlyn's Austin Doctor personally to quiz him on his practices.

Turns out the treatments are working.

“My babies lungs have grown,” says Newcomb about the progress.

After her son is born, he will need dialysis every night.

Once he's 25 lbs. he’ll be put on a kidney transplant list.

Ashlyn is due in November, but says her doctors want to deliver in October.
