Thursday Morning Update

Another Nice Afternoon Expected

This great stretch of mid-august weather will continue for the next several days. Temperatures will remain near or below the seasonal averages as low level moisture will also remain sparse for the next 36 hours. The result will be pleasant mid-august weather with a slight warming trend this weekend.

The mid-level ridge of high pressure is now located to the west of our immediate area and the upper air flow is from the North West to the southeast across most of Oklahoma.   Once again this morning, we will track the possibility of a few showers or thunderstorms across southwestern Kansas and part of Northwestern Oklahoma.   A few of these spotty showers may appear near or west of I-35 corridor through midday but we’ll anticipate this activity will remain well west of our immediate areas of concern.   A weak disturbance may also brush part of northeastern OK Friday but the chance of any precipitation appears rather low.

Temperatures this morning are in the lower to mid-60s across eastern Oklahoma. Mostly clear sky will remain for most of the morning, but just like yesterday afternoon, a few clouds will be likely across the eastern third of the state. Afternoon readings should be very similar to yesterday with daytime highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s.  Northeast winds this morning will back from the southeast later this afternoon at less than 10 mph.   As the winds return from the southeast, a gradual warming trend will commence into the weekend.   Morning lows near 70 will be followed by daytime highs in the lower to mid-90s. Temperature heat index values will also slowly increase, but will remain well below advisory criteria.

I anticipate temperatures will warm into the lower to mid-90s early next week before another system will approach the area by the end of the week. This system should bring a chance of rain and thunderstorms sometime around Thursday or Friday.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

  Have a great day.
