TULSA, Oklahoma -

Police are looking for an attacker after a woman said she was raped on the Osage Trail just north of the OSU-Tulsa campus.

They said it happened Thursday as she was walking on the trail near the 900 block of North Greenwood.

OSU-Tulsa sent out a text alert to students and faculty Thursday afternoon after the woman said she was attacked just north campus on the Osage Prairie Trail.

Police said a homeless woman was walking near the trees and took a break on a bench, but when she got up a man attacked her from behind.

Sergeant Brian Carlise with Tulsa Police said the woman didn’t get a good look at her attacker because he covered her head before he assaulted her.

"He put something over her head, something like a cloth or maybe a shirt. So she really couldn't see what was going on, and at that point she was sexually assaulted," he said.

The attack happened in the middle of the day not far from a park and some homes.

Investigators said they haven't heard from any witnesses and said it may have been on a part of the trail hidden from view.

They're now searching for surveillance video in nearby parking lots and buildings and exploring all possibilities into who the attacker may be.

“It could have been someone that comes to this trail on a regular basis for whatever reason. Could have been someone who was hiding out in the woods, could have been a homeless person if there's any homeless encampments near where they camp out and spend time, so at this point anything is possible."

Police urge people who walk and bike the trails to use caution and to never use the trail alone.

They ask anyone who may have any information to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
