TULSA, Oklahoma -

A strong upper level storm system is diving out of the Montana region this morning and will move across the central and northern high plains today and Wednesday.  A lead disturbance is rotating around the base of this trough and will provide a chance for showers and thunderstorms this morning through midday across part of northern OK and southern Kansas.   Later this afternoon and tonight, a surface cold front will enter northwestern OK and move southeast across the state.   Storms are likely to develop along this boundary and may become severe with some threat of damaging wind gusts with the stronger cells.   As the front moves southward early Wednesday morning, rain is expected behind the boundary across northern OK for the morning hours.   These pockets of rain should remain near the area through morning before shifting south across southern OK by afternoon and early evening.  The air-mass behind the departing front Wednesday morning combined with abundant cloud cover and rain-cooled air should result in Wednesday afternoon highs in the lower 70s for northern OK along with north winds at 10 to 20 mph.  Some locations could stay in the upper 60s.

WARN Interactive Radar

Temperatures Thursday morning should begin in the mid to upper 50s followed by highs in the lower 80s.   We don't anticipate precipitation Thursday, but late Thursday night into Friday morning, additional showers and  storms will be included in the forecast as the front begins retreating northward across the state.   This will occur as another upper level system will move across the central plains Friday and possibly another system Sunday.   We'll increase the rain and storm chances Friday morning to midday, and also keep the slight chance for a few storms Sunday as the next front moves northward across the state.

Flood Advisory

Temperatures today are expected in the upper 80s north and the lower 90s south along with south winds, mostly cloudy conditions, and a chance for showers and storms across portions of northern OK.   Additional storms are likely to develop later tonight as the cold front moves southward into the area.   A few of the storms may be severe.   Wednesday morning starts with rain.   Daytime highs may stay in the lower 70s along with mostly cloudy conditions.   North winds at 10 to 20 mph are likely.   Thursday morning starts in the mid-50s and ends in the lower 80s north and the mid-80s south along with south winds at 10 to 15 mph.   Storm chances will increase Friday morning with lows in the 70s.   Highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s will be likely.    The weekend will feature lows in the 70s and highs Saturday in the 90s and Sundays highs in the upper 80s with a chance for a few storms as the next front moves southward.

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
