TULSA, Oklahoma -

For generations music has been used as a way to help heal.

Now Oral Roberts University is bringing that healing power into a clinic. The university cut the ribbon on the new Music Therapy Clinic inside CityPlex Towers on Tuesday, August 18, 2015.

The program will provide free music therapy services to the community in areas such as behavioral and neurological therapies

As we look through history, we know that music is very powerful. It's always had a powerful ability to touch the human spirit," said William Wilson, ORU President.

The clinic already has a long waiting list, so if you are interested, you'll want to get on the list soon.

ORU said the clinic is dedicated to providing free, high-quality music therapy services to the local community. Students in the music therapy program will gain professional experience evaluating and treating patients in the clinic, while being supervised by two board certified music therapists, Hayoung Lim and Hyun-Jung Lee.

The school says its Music Therapy program is built on an integrated music therapy clinical program of Cognitive-Behavioral Music Therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT).

According to a news release, the integrated program develops clinical knowledge and treatment based on analysis of individuals' cognitive, speech & language, social/emotional (psychological), and physical behaviors, and prepares music therapy students to utilize scientific evidence regarding human perception and the production of music to treat disorders of the human nervous system.
