TULSA, Oklahoma -

There is work everywhere you look at the Tulsa Botanic Gardens, which means a lot of progress is happening.

Right now, crews are working on several projects, including placing big cast limestone planters on top of a pipe to help it drain, Todd Lasseigne said.

“This is an irrigation pipe that also serves as a drain," he explained.

There are so many of them, and they are so large, it wouldn't make sense to water the plants in them by hand. They will line the walkway from the top of the hill down to the lake.

The first several garden areas will be the flower garden.

"This is going to be the main garden that, we think, is going to wow a lot of people," Lasseigne said.

There will be trees and evergreen shrubs, and seasonal flowers in spring, summer and fall; water will cascade down through it all in this terraced water feature in the center.

But there’s more to the garden.

While a lot of work is going on at the flower garden, over in what will be the Children's Discovery Garden, there’s an enormous dragon head being sculpted out of concrete.

Even though there is a lot going on, because the project is a bit out in the country and not in our faces every day it's easy to lose track of it.

Lasseigne said, "We are not far away, it's not hard to get here."

He's right actually - eight miles as the crow flies. In fact, you can see downtown from there, and you can see the end of phase one coming to an end.

The big grand opening is Saturday, October 3rd.
