Mike Gundy seems relaxed heading into his 11th season in charge at OSU, but depth and experience can put a coach’s mind at ease. “We’re in a really good situation right now,” he said.

Returning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Emmanuel Ogbah is leading like he should, but he’s still causing some problems at practice. “It’s been really hard to evaluate our tackles because of Ogbah. You know, he just runs everybody over and gets to the quarterback, so when he’s in there it’s a tough situation for us,” explained Gundy.

Ogbah says the offensive guys have helped him out. “The offense is really pushing it, like the offensive line, Zac Crabtree, Victor Salako, they’ve stepped up into their role and have helped me out. Guys I’m going to face are guys like Victor and Crabtree, so I get better every day working against them,” elaborated Ogbah.

The Cowboys know what to expect from Ogbah and several other veterans.

Gundy says the key to great things lies deeper on the roster. “It’s that second wave of guys that change your season from an eight-win to a 12-win season, give or take some games. I’m not saying we’re gonna win eight, I’m not saying we’re gonna win 12; I’m saying it’s that second wave that are unknowns,” he explained.

Despite his late-season success last year, quarterback Mason Rudolph is also in that second wave. All eyes will be on the starting sophomore next Thursday at Central Michigan.
