Tulsa Police Captain Appointed To FEMA Council

A member of Tulsa Police Department has been appointed to FEMA's National Advisory Council. Captain Brett Bailey will serve on the council that advises the FEMA administrator on all aspects of emergency management. Member of the NAC are spread across the nation to help review and develop the country's incident management system.

“The National Advisory Council plays a key role to ensure effective and ongoing coordination of federal preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation for natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters,” FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate said.

Bailey was one of five appointees selected out of 140 applicants.

"Being appointed to serve on the National Advisory Council is a great honor and responsibility. It will allow me to be a part of advising the FEMA Director on issues that not only affect Tulsa and Oklahoma, but also the entire United States," Bailey said. "I look forward to using my training and experience gained to serve at this level."

Bailey has been a member of the Tulsa Police Department since 1988 and helped begin the department's Incident Management Team in 2000. In 2012, he was one of 10 people who were sent to New York by Governor Mary Fallin in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The  council was established after the Hurricane Katrina.
