Tulsa Police Say Man On PCP Shot Up Girlfriend's Apartment
TULSA, Oklahoma - Tulsa Police arrested a man they say was high on PCP when he trashed his girlfriend's apartment. They say the apartment was badly damaged, but they don't think anyone was hurt.
Officers were called to the 5400 block of East 71st Place after gunshots were reported at the YaleTowne Apartments a little before 9 a.m. Sunday.
Sergeant Doug Brown told News On 6 people reported hearing a man and woman yelling before the gunshots.
"We cleared the apartment and discovered it was trashed out really bad," he said.
"Once we determined there was no one in the apartment that needed immediate medical attention, we backed out and called our crime scene people," he said.
A man came out of the apartment and said, "I guess I messed up," according to police records. That man, Eric Ivan Luckey, was arrested at the scene. Police found bullet holes in in the walls and ceilings and a handgun, possession damaged and destroyed.
Luckey, a convicted felon, was arrested on several complaints including being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled drug. He had a cigarette case containing a vial of PCP, according to police.
"It was developed as a tranquilizer for animals," Brown said. "People are absolutely nuts for wanting to ingest in some form - usually they smoke it - PCP. It usually results in extreme psychotic behavior."
Police said they have called area hospitals to find out if anyone was injured, but believe Luckey just damaged property. No one living nearby was hurt, probably because of the firewall between apartments, Brown said.
"At the very best, what we have here is a guy getting high on PCP destroying the apartment he's living in, everything in it, and firing several shots - one or more of which could have hit somebody," Brown said.
Luckey was booked on complaints of possession of a controlled drug, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm in commission of a felony. Brown said more charges could be added as the investigation progresses.
Luckey told police he was upset over a child visitation issue with another woman, smoked PCP and started throwing things around, records show.
