A high school pep rally left a Tulsa student dressed as a mascot from the opposing team bruised and bloody.

Tulsa Public Schools said it's investigating after an ineligible Memorial football player kicked the student repeatedly in the face.

The injured student, Austin Rand, is a senior at Memorial. He said he had to go to the hospital this weekend for his injuries.

He's feeling better now, but still in pain. He wants to know why one player took the pep rally too far.

What was meant to be a pep rally skit quickly got out of hand as dozens of Charger football players tackled their rival mascot, the Edison Eagle, played by Rand.

At the bottom of the dog pile, one student got too aggressive.

"I cried. I cried really hard because, like, for one, he doesn't - when you're in school and you volunteer to do something, I think he really wanted to do it, and then that happens," said junior Nygia Smith.

The district is not releasing the offending student's name but said he was not eligible for the football team this season.

School officials have already taken disciplinary action against him.

As for the Charger football team, the district is requiring that the players make a public apology to their school during an assembly this Friday.

Senior football players will sit out during the first half of Friday's game and the entire team is required to perform 12 hours of community service at their school.

TPS Spokesman, Chris Payne said, "We really can't have, we have to have no tolerance for this kind of behavior; it just really got way out of hand."

"They were on him for a really long time, and it just didn't look right. And then he got up and you could just see the look on his face. His face was red," Smith said.

Rand said the football team is not at fault, and many players have apologized to him.
