Police tape blocked off Angie Lane outside Bethel Acres on Saturday as investigators carefully combed through the crime scene.

They responded to a reported shooting early in the afternoon. Authorities said the 911 call came from a neighbor who said someone showed up at their house, saying they'd shot someone.

When deputies got there, a man in his mid-30's was dead in the middle of the road near a house. He was later identified as Robert Dale Almon.

“We cleared the house initially. There was information maybe ... there was other individuals in the house, possibly armed. We did clear the house and found that there were no other individuals there,” Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said.

The man who claimed to have pulled the trigger was still around when authorities arrived, but he was not in good shape.

Investigators said he couldn't catch his breath and wasn't steady on his feet.

“He was having some problems. We had to check him out and had him transported to the hospital," Booth said.

And while he was at the hospital, investigators secured a search warrant for the property. The state medical examiner's office and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents arrived to help.

What led to the deadly struggle is unknown, but neighbors told News 9 there had been a lot of extra traffic and activity down their road recently.

The sheriff thinks this was between two people who knew each other and both knives and guns were involved.

The man who said he shot the victim was released from the hospital. He was detained so authorities could get his statement.

Late Saturday night, Booth said Almon had been staying with the alleged shooter.
