Pencil Box To Help Provide Supplies For Needy Students

Not every student comes to school with everything they need to make the most of the opportunity, but what if there were a place teachers could shop for school supplies for students who need them.

The Pencil Box hopes to make that a reality, and it’ll be free, according to Executive Director Nancy Bolzle.

“We are a free store for teachers to provide supplies for disadvantaged students," she said.

She said they've got everything you can imagine.

"We have pencil sharpeners, we have pencils, we have pens, we have notebook paper, we have colored paper, we have spiral notebooks, we have binders, we have scissors, we have rulers, we have glue sticks, we have glue, we have paint, we have clay, we have markers, we have crayons...”

You get the idea, they got a lot; and they want to give it away.

“We have businesses, foundations and individuals who donate supplies and financial support," said Bolzle said.

No sooner had she said that than a truck from You Move Me showed up with a donation from QEP Resources. QEP is leaving town and donated truckloads of supplies to the pencil box - school supplies eventually for someone who needs them.

The program is designed for teachers in schools with 70 percent of its students on the free or reduced lunch program, and in Tulsa Public Schools, that's almost all of them.

Nancy: "Every child wants to experience the joy of opening a new box of crayons."

The Pencil Box will help more kids have that, and much more.
