Cowboys Defense Impressive In Win Over Longhorns

Posted: Updated:
AUSTIN,Texas -

Most fans will remember the crazy sequence that ended the game, where the Cowboys left Austin with a three-point victory.

But Oklahoma State’s true fans will notice that the defense did a dominating job on the Longhorns in the last 30 minutes. Texas only gained 48 second half yards on 34 snaps. "I thought the guys were disciplined in their pass rush, and when we wanted to add a guy, we knew he was going to run,” said Cowboys defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer. “Those guys got him flushed, and we had guys waiting on him. Not that we made the tackle every time, but we gave ourselves a chance."

The offensive line's inability to block Texas up front to gain consistent yardage on the ground kept the Cowboys from any second half success. Mason Rudolph was not as sharp as we've seen him before, allowing a couple of mistakes that led to two defensive touchdowns by Texas. But afterward the quarterback was as poised as usual. “[It was] just bad ball security on my part, no excuse. I wouldn't say it's sweaty; [I] just kind of rushed it and I can't do that. I've got to protect the ball and put our team in a good situation,” he explained.

So it's the defense that carries the Cowboys to a 4-0 record, with a 4th straight win over Texas making it the first time in the history of Longhorns' football that's ever happened.
