TULSA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Indictments given to the Tulsa County sheriff, and his resignation announcement, come after months of protests and petition signature drives.

The citizen group, We The People Oklahoma, led the movement to convene a grand jury to investigate the sheriff's office.

"I really hope that our future elected officials, and current elected officials, look at this and say, ‘You know, we really need to pay attention to our citizens and understand that we cannot get comfortable within our own positions and not understand that our citizens are the reason we're doing what we're doing," said Marq Lewis with We The People Oklahoma.

The other person who's been fighting for an investigation into the sheriff's office is Andre Harris. He's the brother of Eric Harris, the man who was shot and killed by former Reserve Deputy Bob Bates during an undercover gun sting.

Andre Harris broke down and cried after hearing the news. He said his brother's death set off all of these questions about what's been happening in the sheriff's office.

"I wouldn't want nobody's brother to have to go through this to get justice. I'd rather lay down my life instead of my brother," Andre said.

He has said, since his brother's death, that he wanted to shine a light on the darkness - asking for an investigation of the sheriff's office.

Andre said he's looking forward to see what the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation will find in their investigations, but he does feel like he got justice Wednesday.

"They had enough audacity to put up a fight, spend taxpayer's money, lie to Tulsa as if they got a third grade education and they did that repeatedly, lie after lie," Andre Harris said.

He said this is the first of many bright days to come for Tulsa County, as the investigations continue.
