CLAREMORE, Oklahoma -

It took a Rogers County jury only five minutes to find a man guilty of leading police on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

Jack Wayne McKerrell Jr. was found guilty of eluding police, driving under suspension, and failure to stop.
In September of last year, McKerrell ran a stop sign in Claremore. With a passenger on his bike, he led police on a high-speed chase before eventually crashing.

“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict," said Rogers County District Attorney Matt Ballard. "The speed with which they came back with this verdict shows just how blatant McKerrell was when he broke the law, eluded one of our officers and put the safety of everyone around him that night in serious jeopardy.”

Court documents show McKerrell is a five-time convicted felon. The Collinsville man has been convicted in the past of car theft, drug possession and possession of a firearm by a felon, among other crimes.

The jury recommended a 25-year sentence for felony eluding and $600 in fines for the other offenses. Sentencing is scheduled for December 7.
