TULSA, Oklahoma - Tulsa will host a prestigious youth soccer tournament next year, for the second consecutive year.

US Youth Soccer announced Thursday that Tulsa will host the 2016 National Presidents Cup July 14-17 at the Mohawk Soccer Complex. The tournament will feature 40 boys and girls teams in the Under-13 through Under-17 age groups.

According to a news release, each team will play preliminary matches Thursday, July 14 through Saturday, July 16 to determine the top two teams to play in the finals on Sunday, July 17.

“Oklahoma Soccer Association is pleased to be named the host for the 2016 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup,” said Tom Wedding, youth vice president of Oklahoma Soccer Association. “We welcome the 40 teams attending as well as all parents, spectators, coaches, referees and administrators. This event will surely bring great economic impact to the City of Tulsa. Oklahoma Soccer, along with Tulsa Sports Commission, look forward to showcasing an outstanding tournament.”

Each US Youth Soccer State Association determines the path through which its state teams advance to the regional competitions. Regional winners of the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups will earn a berth to the US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup.

Tulsa hosted the tournament for the first time in 2015.

Vince Trinidad, Executive Director of the Tulsa Sports Commission, said the group is happy to hear the news.

"The Tulsa Sports Commission is excited to continue our strong partnership with the US Youth Soccer, OK Soccer Association, City of Tulsa and city soccer clubs to continue hosting national level youth soccer competitions at the Mohawk Sports Complex," he said. "We look forward to once again welcoming soccer athletes, their coaches and fans to Tulsa for great competition."
