BIXBY, Oklahoma -

The Bixby city manager will retire January 1st. The announcement comes just days after Doug Enevoldsen's timesheets were handed over to an accountant to be verified.

Per Enevoldsen's contract, he's been allowed to keep his own records of his overtime, which he said totals to 2,800 hours of comp time in the last five years.

He hasn't shown up for work since June when a doctor advised him to "significantly reduce his stress levels," but he's still getting paid his $155,000 salary.

The mayor of Bixby and city councilors met Wednesday night in executive session and reviewed the timesheets, then announced Enevoldsen's retirement.

One city councilor said the retirement is a result of the timesheet audit and the coverage of News On 6.

In a statement, Enevoldsen said:

"I wish to express sincere gratitude to the Bixby city council members who recruited me to serve in Bixby, and especially to the mayors and vice mayors I’ve worked with so closely during my five and a half years here.  I also want to thank my hard working, talented department heads who helped achieve so many positive outcomes for our citizens, council, and staff. It’s also been an honor and a privilege to have served with so many dedicated front line employees who likewise consistently put the needs of the public before their own. Our school district, our local and regional chambers of commerce, my fellow public officials from throughout this region, many business owners and informed citizens, have all been integral to the success of my efforts on behalf of Bixby. My goal when I accepted this position was to help my council shape our community into an even better, stronger one than I found it, and I am both proud of and pleased with our clear success in that regard. I’m confident that our consistent focus on fiscal responsibility, public safety, infrastructure investment and streamlined operations will continue to propel the City of Bixby forward. I feel blessed to have been a part of Bixby, appreciate all the kindness and support extended me while here, and I am looking forward to both restoring my health and discovering what God has next in store for me and my beloved family."

Mayor John Easton said, in a statement:

"Doug Enevoldsen is, without a doubt, one of the hardest working, most dedicated public servants I've ever met. Doug has worked tirelessly for this city for the past five plus years, and served with honor and integrity to better our community. After we recruited him to come to Bixby and serve as our City Manager, he immediately led the way to stabilize and strengthen our city budget and operations. As a result the city's credit rating increased to AA+.

"Doug has been a strong public safety advocate, trimming our General Fund administrative costs by 25% and boosting police and fire department funding. He worked with his professional managers and staff to streamline our community development process, expand and enhance our infrastructure, implement numerous administrative reforms, advance the cause of government transparency and ethical conduct, and successfully grow our economy by promoting existing businesses and attracting many new ones to Bixby.

"Doug is a man of character who is devoted to public service, and I congratulate and thank him for his outstanding accomplishments and service to our community. Together with the council, I wish him the very best upon his retirement from the City of Bixby effective January 1, 2016. We also wish him a full recovery and good health in the future."
