World Series: Tulsa Native Matt Reynolds On Mets Last Minute Roster Change

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, Missouri -

One slide changed the course of Matt Reynolds' career. When Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada broke his leg, Reynolds got the call.

"At first it didn't register,” said Reynolds. “I was actually watching the game with a bunch of buddies and my friend next to me looks at me and says ‘you may be going to New York tomorrow.’ That's when I was like, ‘this really could be happening.’”

Reynolds was in the dugout in celebration as the Mets beat the Dodgers, and then the Cubs. Now, he's at the World Series.

“It’s going to take maybe a couple weeks after season just to reflect on what’s happened and the ride that I’m on right now, but I'm enjoying every moment and cherishing every moment,” he said.

On the morning of Game 1, Reynolds got bad news. Juan Uribe was healthy enough to play, and the Mets wanted him instead.

“To go from sitting on the couch a month ago to being in the world series now, just to be here is incredible,” Reynolds acknowledged.

Reynolds will still get a World Series ring if the Mets win, and he'll get a share of the postseason payout. He still has a chance to get back on the roster, but someone else would have to get hurt.
