It's Week 9 of the high school football season, and teams across the state are trying to lock up playoff spots and district titles.

Sand Springs and Booker T. Washington are both in the hunt in their district, and it's our game of the week.

Sand Springs

Friday night, the Sandites can force a three-way tie for the district lead with a win.

After opening district play with a loss at Bartlesville, Sand Springs has snapped off four straight wins. The defense has led the way, giving up just 12 points per game during the winning streak.

Head coach Dustin Kinard likes the way his team is playing as the season winds down.

“We've tried to do every week, every year is get better every week, week to week. That's what our quarterback's done; that's what our offensive line's done,” said Kinard. “The strength of our team right now is our defense, and we knew that going in. [We’re] just trying to keep it close, and let them win the ball game for us.”

Booker T. Washington

The Hornets can clinch the district title with a Friday night victory.

Running back Justice Hill is a huge part of what Booker T. tries to do on offense.

The Oklahoma State commit carried the ball 28 times for 167 yards and two scores against Sand Springs last year.

Booker T. head coach Marvin Dantzler feels his team has gotten better since last season.

“I think for us, it's about continuing to get better. I know people keep saying, ‘Why do you keep saying get better?’ That's the thing I feel like we didn't do last year; it's we didn't continue to improve from week to week,” Dantzler explained. “But this year we seem to do that, no matter who the opponent was or who the opponent is. We've continued to get better each week.”
