Firefighters briefly evacuated all guests from a midtown Tulsa hotel because of smoke in an elevator shaft early Thursday.

The Tulsa Fire Department went to the Embassy Suites Hotel in the 3300 block of South 79th East Avenue at Interstate 44 just before 6 a.m.

Firefighters immediately began evacuating the hotel. They then determined a motor for one of the elevators was smoking and that caused fire alarms to sound.

Firefighters shut down the elevator then allowed guests back inside.
