A man and woman's first night in a new home was interrupted by smoke alarms as a fire broke out. Tulsa firefighters were called to the home near 11th and Sheridan shortly after 2:30 a.m.

The man and woman were able to escape uninjured, but a pet cat was lost in the fire.

"Residents had already exited the structure and informed us that they had left the cat inside," said Chief Glenn Brigan, Tulsa Fire Department.

"We located the  cat, but we were not able to resuscitate the cat," he said.

Firefighters believe the fire started in the kitchen but aren't sure exactly how.

"They were not cooking," Chief Brigan said. "They went out to Taco Bell tonight."

The kitchen was completely destroyed, and high heat damaged other items in the residence, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
