All week long, we are sharing stories from veterans nominated to win an $800 mattress from Bob Mills furniture.

6 In The Morning anchors Rich Lenz, LeAnne Taylor and Alan Crone recently joined Bob Mills and Dr. Angie from Bob Mills Furniture to surprise five veterans with a lunch and a gift certificate for a new mattress set.  They were all nominated by someone close to them.

Anita Sanders served in the U.S. Army for nearly 10 years.

She was deployed during Desert Storm when her kids were just 2 and 3 years old.

Her bravery and leadership impacted her daughter Kryistal, who now is serving in the Army.

“She's an officer in the military… she was in ROTC…  and she did outstanding,” Anita said of her daughter. “And she's been to war, too, and it was real scary, and I'm just glad that she's back… and hopefully she'll be getting out soon,” she added with a laugh.

Anita now works as a licensed professional counselor at Green Country Mental in Claremore.

On Wednesday, we honored Barran Tucker, 91, who served a total of 34 years and was drafted out of high school to serve in World War II.  Tucker landed on Omaha Beach during D-Day.  He was a prisoner of war and escaped twice.

He's now the last survivor of his unit.
