7-Year-Old Playing 'Deer Hunter' Shoots Teen By Accident, Delaware County Sheriff Says

A 14-year-old girl had to be flown to a hospital after being shot by a 7-year-old boy playing “deer hunter” on Saturday, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said.

The boy was visiting a home on E. 310 Road in the northeastern part of the county when he got a .22-caliber rifle from a bedroom and said he was going to play “deer hunter," the sheriff's office said.

While playing with the gun, he shot the teen in her back by accident, according to DCSO.

The girl was flown to a Joplin hospital. There is no word on her current condition.

The sheriff’s office said there were no adults in the home at the time of the shooting, but charges are not anticipated.
