On Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2015, shortly after 8:30p.m. Stillwater Police responded to an ambulance assistance call in the 100 block of West Tyler. Upon arrival officers found the victim William W. Rivers, a 31 year old Stillwater resident. Rivers had a stab wound to his upper left chest. Also found at the scene was Kendell Paul Sparrow, a 40 year old Stillwater resident, who was providing first aid to Rivers.
Rivers was taken to Stillwater Medical Center for treatment then transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City for further treatment. Rivers died later in the evening from his wound.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Sparrow and Rivers were long-time acquaintances and friends and that they had gotten into a brief verbal and physical confrontation prior to the ambulance being summoned.
