A powerful storm system is impacting the state this morning with thunderstorms.   Some of the storms may be severe with damaging wind and heavy rainfall potential.  Due to the extreme wind profile in the atmosphere, despite a lack of significant surface instability, the threat for a brief tornado will remain with this system during the morning hours but severe damaging winds will remain the highest threat.  Please remain aware of your weather surrounding during the pre-dawn to early morning hours.   Once the initial squall line has passed your area this morning the threat for severe weather will end.   By the time most folks read this blog the severe weather threat will be moving into extreme southeastern OK and western Arkansas.

Weather Alerts

After the morning storms, strong west to southwest winds from 20 to 35 mph will be likely today as the powerful upper level low lifts northeast away from the state.   We would normally be concerned about the fire danger potential with this type of environment of dry air and strong winds moving into the state.   But the rainfall with the early morning storm should be sufficient to keep the fire threat very low across north central and far northern OK this afternoon.   Locations across east central and southeastern OK will be very damp from heavy rainfall ongoing in these areas.

Temperatures today will move into the mid or upper 60s this morning with decreasing clouds and afternoon sunshine.  Temperatures will drop into the lower 60s by afternoon and into the upper 50s by 6pm tonight.    Wednesday supports lows in the lower 40s and highs in the lower 60s with mostly sunny sky.

Another front will move southward into the state Thursday evening and Friday morning bringing a minor cool down, but a more noticeable cool down is likely Saturday with a stronger surface boundary moving into northern OK.   The chance for post frontal showers or drizzle seems a little lower in the data this morning compared to yesterday at this hour, but we’ll keep a slight mention in the forecast for Saturday morning.   Lows in the  mid to upper 30s Saturday followed by highs in the upper 40s or near 50 along.

Sunday morning temperatures will be in the mid-30s with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Thanks for reading the abbreviated weather blog and discussion this morning.

Have a safe morning.
