Muskogee police have a man in custody after they said he shot one person in the face and, soon after, fired a round at an FBI task force member.

The initial shooting call came in just before 2 p.m., then, 14 minutes later, Muskogee police had 24-year-old Derrick Wooten in custody.

Investigators said it all began near 30th and Estelle in Muskogee where someone shot a man in the face. The victim ran to a nearby home and then went to the hospital.

Lincoln Anderson with Muskogee Police said, "Once on scene, we made contact with the victim to try and figure out what happened."

Witnesses told investigators they believe they saw the shooter run inside a home down the street.

Special ops teams were called in but gave the home an all clear. The violent crimes task force then began patrolling the streets.

Investigators first made contact with Wooten, who matched the description, at a Little Caesars; police said he took off across 32nd Street and into the parking lot of the Travel Inn.

That’s where police said Wooten fired one shot at the FBI task force member then ran behind the building to a field where he was taken into custody.

"It took a lot of restraint from our officers,” Anderson said. “At that point, he put himself in a deadly use of force situation. Fortunately, our task force guys and officers are trained really well."

Wooten faces a number of charges for both incidents, including shooting with the intent to kill.

As for a motive, that is still under investigation.
