A major cold front will move across the state later tonight bringing a big change to our weather.   Much colder air will be spreading southward along with strong northwest winds at 30 mph late tonight into early Saturday morning.   This cold air will stick around for the entire weekend with a hard freeze likely for most of northern OK Sunday morning.

South winds will return today with daytime highs moving into the lower or even mid-60s by this afternoon.  The leading edge of the colder air will arrive near northeastern OK around 10 pm tonight and rapidly move southward.   Strong winds from 20 to 40 mph will be likely behind the front.   A small window for some showers will remain along the boundary for a short time before moving quickly southeast out of the area.   The front will be nearing an OKC to Bartlesville line around 9pm, near the Tulsa metro around 10pm, and near a McAlester to Muskogee to Tahlequah line around 2am to 3am line.   The front should be clearing southeastern OK around 4am.

Temperatures Saturday morning should be in the mid-30s with decreasing clouds and winds near 30 mph for the first part of the morning before wind speeds diminish by midday.   Clouds will also clear from the northwest to southeast midday or sooner.   Daytime highs will range from 42 to 46 across northeastern OK.

Dry air and light wind should allow for a fast temperature drop Saturday evening with Sunday morning lows in the mid-20s across a large portion of northern and central OK.   This pattern should support a widespread hard freeze for large portion of the northern half of the state.    Temperatures near freezing will also be likely across the southeastern OK quadrant near the Red River.   Freeze warnings will be up for most of the area.

Sunday morning to midday south winds will return with afternoon highs moving into the upper lower 50s with some sunshine.

Another system will more than likely approach the southern plains Wednesday into Thanksgiving bringing increasing rain and storm chances back to the state.   Thanksgiving may end up wet.   Another shot of shallow cold air may arrive next weekend.   We’ll be updating more about this potential in the next few days.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
