OCC To Announce Major Changes For Oil, Gas Operators

A 2.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded overnight near Cherokee. But that paled in comparison to the big one that shook much of the state on Monday.

Now we're told there will be major changes for oil and gas operations.  State regulators will clamp down on the oil and gas operators in our state.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission expects to release details of its latest move Wednesday. But, the commission confirmed to News 9 it will involve shutting down some wells and reducing volume at others.

The Corporation Commission has already restricted operations at more than 600 disposal wells in earthquake-prone parts of the state, primarily north central Oklahoma, so far this year.

In the last two weeks, there have been numerous 4.0 or greater earthquakes in the state, including two 4.7 magnitude earthquakes, both near Medford.

On top of this, Governor Mary Fallin will form a fact-finding group to look at ways to recycle waste water instead of injecting it into disposal wells
