Instead of getting ready to celebrate her first birthday, a little girl is fighting for her life.

Neveah Brookens Roldan is in critical condition after her mother's boyfriend was arrested Tuesday night on a complaint of child abuse. Her mother was also arrested, accused of permitting it.

Neveah's family and friends are worried she may not make it much longer. They said she's on life support and has suffered brain damage.

The baby's father, Anthony Roldan, wants to see his baby girl one more time but said he lives in Florida with no money for a plane ticket.

He said he wants Neveah to know one thing, “All that I can say to her is, daddy loves her," he said.

The baby's mother, Hallelujah Brookens, and her boyfriend, Nathaniel Watkins, were both arrested Tuesday night at Parkview Terrace Apartments.

Police said Watkins told them the baby wouldn't stop crying so he violently shook her for one to two minutes.

Officers also report they found Neveah with two black eyes and contusions to her back, inner thigh and neck. She was unresponsive, and in cardiac arrest.

Now, her father wants justice.

"I just want to see this guy just serve some time, or whatever the case may be, and hopefully he rots in jail for all I care," Roldan said.

Ramona Nester is a friend of the baby's mother; they met at Tulsa Job Corps, a government program that trains adults to thrive in the workplace.

“She always had her. She was going to Job Corps to get her high school diploma to better herself for her," Nester said.

She insists Brookens loved her baby.

"When I hung with her all the time, she wouldn't have put her baby into that position," she said.

Police said Brookens blamed herself for the abuse, saying she never should have brought Watkins into her home or left the baby in his care.

Police said the baby's mother was not home at the time of the incident.

Both she and Watkins are in jail, held on $50,000 bond.
