The jury has reached a verdict in the case against a former Oklahoma City police officer accused of sexually assaulting 13 women.

After 45 hours of deliberations, Daniel Holtzclaw has been found guilty on 18 counts.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Guilty on six counts of sexual battery.
  • Guilty on four counts of forcible sodomy.
  • Guilty on three counts of procuring lewd acts.
  • Guilty on four counts of 1st degree rape, and one count of 2nd degree rape.

The prosecution said Holtzclaw used his power as an officer to prey on women he could intimidate and bully into silence.

Holtzclaw is accused of sexually assaulting 13 women in a northeast Oklahoma City neighborhood he patrolled. Holtzclaw was an officer in the Springlake division.

Holtzclaw's attorney Scott Adams claimed Holtzclaw acted honorably and ethically and the neighborhood Holtzclaw patrolled is known for not liking police officers.

The Oklahoma City Police Department released the following statement after the reading of the verdict:

The Oklahoma City Police Department is pleased with the jury's decision regarding the Daniel Holtzclaw trial. It was a long and difficult trial and deliberation process for all involved. It is obvious the jury took their responsibilities very seriously and considered every piece of evidence presented to them. We are proud of our detectives and prosecutors for a job well done. To the jury, we thank you for your service. We are satisfied with the jury's decision and firmly believe justice was served.

Holtzclaw will remain in the Oklahoma County Jail until his formal sentencing set for January 21, 2016. The jury recommended up to 263 years in jail.
